Behold! The Mothership!
Introducing CAPiTA. Founded in 2000 with the goal of doing things differently, which at the time mostly meant building weird-looking boards that made a lot of shop owners nervous. While the company nearly folded more than once, a mix of stubbornness and a slowly growing fanbase kept it moving. Early on, they leaned heavily into offbeat graphics and an art-forward approach thanks to folks like Ephraim Chui and rider-turned-designer TJ Schneider. Eventually, CAPiTA found an investor willing to fund their next phase and moved production to Austria in 2013. By 2016, they had opened their own facility, the Mothership, which gave them full control over their board quality. Despite having their act together now, CAPiTA still holds onto the scrappy energy that got them through the early years.
